What are Alternative Photographic Techniques?

They refer to a group of methods and processes for creating photographs that differ from the traditional approaches used in classical photography. These alternative techniques are often characterized by an experimental and artistic approach and may involve various processes, materials, and techniques. Some of these alternative techniques for example include:

• Cyanotype: Uses a light-sensitive solution of iron to produce blue images.
• Van Dyke Brown: Creates brown images using a sensitive solution of iron and silver.
• Gum Printing: Combines pigment printing with a light-sensitive solution of gelatin.
• Platinum and Palladium Printing: Utilizes metals like platinum or palladium to create an image.
• Daguerreotype: A historical technique where the image is formed on a silver plate with a surface layer of mercury.
• Bromoil Printing: Combines bromide printing with oil-based inking.
• Polaroid Transfer: Uses emulsion from Polaroid films to transfer the image to another surface.

These techniques go beyond traditional black and white or color photography. They do not use photographic papers, the chemicals for their processing, or the technique involving an enlarger to create the final image.
